Creedence Clearwater Revival, often referred to as CCR, was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band consisted of lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Fogerty, his brother rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. Their musical style encompassed a wide range of genres including swamp rock, roots rock, country rock, and blues rock. Despite their legendary timeless music the success of the band was not immediate.
In El Cerrito, California at Portola Junior High School, John Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook met and formed a band to play their favorite music. While Tom Fogerty was not yet a member he was no stranger to singing backup for his brother. After a few singles released Max Weiss from Fantasy Records decided to sign the band.
After being picked up by Fantasy Records, Max Weiss renamed the band The Golliwogs. With little success the band continued to work on their musical style and in 1966 two members of the band, John Fogerty and Doug Clifford were drafted for military service for the Vietnam War.
Fantasy Records was purchased by Saul Zaentz, who gave the band more freedom in their own band representation. The band, discontent with their prior given name decided to name their band Creedence Clearwater Revival. In 1968 the band started to gain attention with its cover of 'Susie Q'. This brought attention to the band and after a few successful releases the band skyrocketed to popularity and enjoyed several years touring the world before the band inevitably broke up after Tom Fogerty and the other members of the band had a falling out over creative control of the bands music.
Through perseverance and talent CCR was able to gain a following, and with a great discography they were able to keep it. Even to this day the band is known as one of the best rock bands of all time, giving us timeless classics like Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising and Fortunate Son. If you would like a truly authentic CCR concert experience Creedence Revisited is the only band with the history, and experience playing with original band members.
